St. Louis, Mo. (BuzzReport) – A devastating tornado ripped through the St. Louis metro area on Friday, causing widespread destruction and claiming at least five lives. The storm, which was part of a larger system affecting several states, brought powerful winds, large hail, and significant damage to the region. The National Weather Service issued a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” alert, warning over a million people in the St. Louis metro area of the impending tornado. As the storm tore through the city, residents witnessed scenes of chaos and destruction, with downed trees, debris-filled streets, and damaged buildings. Damage and Casualties The University City area bore the brunt of the damage, with images on social media showing downed trees and destroyed property. In Clayton, just south of University City, several trees were damaged, and some fell on cars. At least 5,000 homes were affected by the storms, and over 80,000 customers lost power across Missouri, with the majority of outages in the St. Louis metro area. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones implemented a city-wide curfew as emergency responders worked to rescue those trapped under debris. “All our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this devastating storm,” the mayor said in a statement. Impact on Local Attractions The St. Louis Zoo sustained significant damage during the storm and was closed through Saturday. Fortunately, all animals were safe, and there were no reports of significant injuries to staff, guests, or animals. Response and Recovery Efforts Emergency responders are working tirelessly to restore power, clear debris, and provide support to those affected by the tornado. The city has set up shelters for those displaced by the storm, and aid is being distributed to families in need. As the community begins to recover, residents are left to pick up the pieces and rebuild. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but one thing is clear: the people of St. Louis will come together to support each other in the face of this disaster.
