MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport)— Authorities have identified the elderly woman who died after being struck by a vehicle outside a West Mobile Walmart, and investigators have now officially classified the case as a homicide.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to the Walmart Supercenter at 685 Schillinger Road South at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found an adult female suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries despite life-saving efforts.

The victim has been identified as 78-year-old Wanda Nunnery.

Following an initial investigation, Mobile Police announced that the case is now being investigated as a homicide. At this time, investigators have not released details surrounding the circumstances that led to the incident, including whether a suspect has been identified or if any arrests have been made.

Authorities have also not disclosed what evidence led them to reclassify the incident as a homicide. Detectives continue to investigate the events that unfolded in the Walmart parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation remains active, and police are expected to release additional information as it becomes available.
