Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)- Rail service between Mobile and New Orleans has been temporarily halted following a crash involving a semi-truck early Sunday morning near Grand Bay, disrupting travel along the popular Amtrak Mardi Gras route.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred when a semi-truck became stalled on the tracks, leading to a collision with an Amtrak train operating along the corridor. The crash prompted an immediate suspension of service as crews assessed the scene and began recovery and safety operations.

As a result of the disruption, Amtrak canceled both of Sunday afternoon’s scheduled departures. The 4:30 p.m. train leaving Mobile and the 5:31 p.m. departure from New Orleans to Mobile have both been called off, according to updates posted on Amtrak’s official website.

Passengers who were scheduled to travel from Mobile earlier in the day were impacted by the sudden shutdown. Officials arranged for buses to transport those यात्रers to New Orleans after the outbound train was forced to return to the station due to the incident.

Authorities have not released details about injuries or the extent of damage caused by the crash. It remains unclear how long the suspension will last, as rail crews and investigators continue working at the scene.

Amtrak has not yet provided a timeline for when the Mardi Gras service will resume, leaving travelers advised to monitor updates and seek alternative transportation options in the meantime.
