MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A murder trial is now underway in Mobile County for a man accused of fatally shooting Hunter Lins and wounding another man outside the Alabama Bar and Lounge. Matthew Sanders faces charges of murder and first-degree assault in connection with the February 2025 shooting. Prosecutors allege the deadly confrontation began with a fight between Sanders and Lins inside the Mobile-area bar and lounge. According to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, the confrontation escalated before Sanders allegedly left the establishment and went outside. Investigators say Sanders retrieved a firearm and returned to the area, where he allegedly opened fire in the parking lot. Lins was struck by gunfire and seriously wounded. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment but ultimately died from his injuries. Another man was also reportedly shot during the incident and survived, leading to the first-degree assault charge against Sanders. The case now moves into the courtroom, where prosecutors and defense attorneys will present evidence and arguments surrounding the events that led to the shooting. Jurors are expected to hear testimony from witnesses, investigators and others connected to the case as they determine what happened during the confrontation and what ultimately led to Lins’ death. At the center of the trial will be the circumstances surrounding the fight, Sanders’ alleged decision to retrieve a firearm, and the moments that followed when gunfire erupted in the parking lot. The prosecution will have the burden of proving the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. The defense will have the opportunity to challenge the state’s evidence and present its own case. The death of Lins has placed renewed attention on the dangers of confrontations escalating into deadly violence, particularly when firearms become involved. The trial remains ongoing.
