Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)– The new terminal project at Mobile International Airport, located at the Brookley Aeroplex, is on track to open in fall 2026 — and it’s coming in well under budget. The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) has confirmed the development is now projected to cost approximately $362 million, nearly $19 million less than its approved $381 million budget. Initial construction bids received last year had pushed the estimated price above $400 million, prompting the Authority to take a closer look at the design, materials, and construction strategies. Revised bids for the terminal’s interior work, along with targeted design adjustments, significantly reduced the expense without altering the building’s planned scope or operational capabilities. The project remains ambitious in scale, designed to accommodate increased passenger volumes and improve the travel experience through modern amenities, expanded check-in areas, and upgraded security and baggage handling systems. Despite the budget shift, the terminal’s features and layout will proceed exactly as envisioned. Commercial airlines are already lining up to serve the upgraded facility. Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines have all signaled plans to operate flights from Mobile International once the terminal opens. Passenger services are expected to begin by November 2026, shortly after the grand opening. By maintaining high standards while reining in costs, the Mobile Airport Authority has positioned the project as a model of fiscal stewardship and strategic planning — and as a catalyst for expanded connectivity between Mobile and the rest of the nation.
