Mystery Surrounds Discovery Of Human Remains In Millbrook Lake

MILLBROOK, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A troubling discovery in a quiet Millbrook neighborhood has sparked an ongoing death investigation after human remains were recovered from a lake Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Millbrook Police Department, officers responded on June 17, 2026, to the 4100 block of Lakeview Drive after a resident reported seeing what appeared to be a body floating in a small lake situated between the Lakeshore community and Sandtown Road.

The caller told authorities he observed what looked like human remains in the water on the opposite side of the lake from his property. Officers quickly responded to the area and located the remains near the shoreline in the 2700 block of Sandtown Road, just south of Helms Drive.

Detectives with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit were called to the scene alongside personnel from the Millbrook Fire Department, who assisted in recovering the remains from the water.

Investigators say that during their preliminary examination of the scene, there were no immediate signs indicating foul play. However, authorities stress that the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, and a thorough investigation is underway.

The remains were transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, where forensic experts will conduct an autopsy to determine both the cause of death and the identity of the deceased.

At this stage of the investigation, detectives have very few clues to work with.

Authorities believe the remains are those of an adult Black male estimated to be between 30 and 50 years old and weighing approximately 180 to 200 pounds. The individual was reportedly wearing a black tank top, black shorts, and white tennis shoes at the time his body was discovered.

Adding to the mystery, investigators say there are currently no missing persons reports within Millbrook that match the description of the unidentified man. Law enforcement agencies throughout the surrounding region have been notified and provided with the limited information available in hopes of identifying the victim.

The discovery has left many questions unanswered, including how the man ended up in the lake and how long he may have been there before being found.
