MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport News) — A late-night dispute over a comment allegedly escalated into gunfire in a Mobile neighborhood, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect. According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to the 5400 block of Colonial Oaks Drive North at approximately 2:05 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that a residence had been struck by multiple rounds of gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident left residents shaken and prompted an immediate investigation. Detectives worked the case over the following days, gathering evidence and identifying a possible suspect. On Wednesday, June 17, investigators located and stopped a person of interest. Authorities said the individual was detained without incident and transported to Mobile Police Headquarters for questioning. During the investigation, detectives determined that the suspect allegedly targeted the residence after becoming upset over a comment made by the victim. Police identified the suspect as Russell Yates, 19, who was subsequently arrested and transported to the Mobile Metro Jail. Investigators have not released additional details regarding the nature of the disagreement or the specific charges filed against Yates.
