Daphne, AL (BuzzReport)- A Baldwin County elementary school administrator is facing new legal trouble after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the early morning hours of November 23, according to information from the Daphne Police Department.

Melissa Spriggs, an assistant principal at Belforest Elementary School, was taken into custody near Daphne Elementary School and charged in connection with the incident. The arrest comes less than a year after she was previously charged with DUI on December 30, 2024.

In the earlier case, Spriggs received a sentence of 12 months of probation and was required to complete educational courses related to the offense. At the time of her most recent arrest, she was still serving that probation period.

Following the November incident, Baldwin County Public Schools placed Spriggs on administrative leave while the situation develops. The district has not released further details regarding her employment status, and the case remains under investigation.

The repeated nature of the charges raises questions about the effectiveness of court-ordered rehabilitation measures and the challenges faced by educators in maintaining both personal and professional responsibilities. For school administrators—often held to higher standards due to their positions of influence—such incidents can lead to significant consequences, both in the legal system and in public trust.

Spriggs’ court proceedings for the new arrest are expected to determine not only potential penalties for the current charge but also any repercussions for violating the terms of her existing probation.
