Major Crash Shuts Down I-10 Westbound Near Alabama-Mississippi Line

Mobile County, AL (BuzzReport) — A major crash involving a cargo truck brought westbound traffic on Interstate 10 to a standstill Sunday morning, forcing a lengthy closure as multiple agencies worked to clear the wreckage.

The crash happened sometime before 6 a.m. near mile marker 2, just before the Alabama-Mississippi state line. Westbound lanes remained closed for approximately four hours while emergency crews and recovery teams worked to remove the damaged vehicles and debris from the interstate.

When crews arrived at the scene, at least one cargo truck appeared to have jackknifed across the westbound lanes, creating a significant obstruction. A wrecker was seen towing one of the cargo trucks from the roadway as cleanup operations continued.

The crash also caused major traffic disruptions for motorists traveling toward Mississippi. Westbound traffic was diverted from I-10 at the Grand Bay exit while crews worked to safely clear the interstate.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), and Mobile Fire-Rescue Department were among the agencies responding to the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether anyone was injured and what caused the cargo truck to jackknife, were not immediately available.

Motorists traveling west toward Mississippi should remain alert for changing traffic conditions and allow additional time for their commute.
