Thomasville, AL (BuzzReport)—A high-speed pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in a serious crash Monday afternoon after authorities attempted to stop a stolen vehicle traveling through Clarke County.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., officers with the Grove Hill Police Department, Jackson Police Department, and Clarke County Sheriff’s Office located a stolen black Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Highway 43 near Allen Road. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Mobile, Alabama.

When law enforcement attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver allegedly accelerated and refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit toward Thomasville. The Thomasville Police Department joined the pursuit as the fleeing vehicle continued through the area.

Authorities said the driver later made a U-turn on Highway 43 near Thomasville Regional Medical Center and began traveling southbound. During the pursuit, speeds reportedly exceeded 140 miles per hour, creating an extremely dangerous situation for the fleeing driver, pursuing officers, and other motorists.

The pursuit came to a violent end just south of Cuzz’s Truck Stop when the driver lost control of the Toyota. The vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway before the driver attempted to regain control. The Camry then flipped and ultimately came to rest upside down in the median.

The force of the crash ejected the driver from the vehicle.

Despite the severity of the wreck, authorities said the driver reported only minor scratches and soreness. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital as a precaution because of the extent of the crash. He was later expected to face multiple charges following his release.

According to law enforcement, the driver faces charges of Felony Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangerment, Receiving Stolen Property in the First Degree, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He also has an outstanding Mobile County warrant for Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm.

Authorities further stated that the driver was known to law enforcement and has an alleged gang affiliation.

The incident remains a stark reminder of the dangers created when suspects flee from law enforcement at extreme speeds. What began as an attempt to recover a stolen vehicle quickly turned into a multi-agency pursuit spanning several communities and ultimately ended with a vehicle overturned in the median.

No serious injuries to the driver were reported.
