Atmore, AL (BuzzReport) – The Atmore Police Department has recently addressed concerns surrounding a video that is circulating on social media, depicting an encounter between a uniformed patrol officer and a citizen during an arrest made on April 3, 2025. The department stated that the video, which was posted online on July 22, 2025, offers an edited and potentially misleading representation of the events that transpired during the incident.

In a formal statement released to the public, the Atmore Police Department emphasized its commitment to upholding high standards of officer conduct, law enforcement integrity, and professionalism. The department reassured community members that all complaints regarding officer conduct are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly in compliance with federal and state laws.

The April incident involved an officer performing a routine check on a vehicle, during which a registered tag search revealed the driver, identified as 29-year-old Miller McCaster of Atmore, had an active warrant for arrest related to charges of Reckless Endangerment. Upon making contact with McCaster, the officer reportedly requested that he exit the vehicle. However, McCaster allegedly responded by rolling up the window, resulting in the officer’s arm becoming trapped.

According to the police, the officer gave multiple warnings to McCaster to lower the window and exit the vehicle. The situation escalated, leading the officer to break the window in an effort to free his arm and proceed with the arrest. The Atmore Police Department reported that, while McCaster sustained no injuries from the encounter, the officer did incur injuries during the incident and required medical treatment from a local physician.

After McCaster’s arrest, a search of the impounded vehicle led to the discovery of illegal narcotics, paraphernalia, and a handgun found in McCaster’s pocket. He has since been charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree assault, first-degree marijuana possession, obstructing government operations, and resisting arrest.

Following the incident, McCaster was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center without further incident. The case has been forwarded to the Escambia County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The Atmore Police Department has retained footage from department-issued body cameras that captured the encounter in its entirety. While the department acknowledges the circulation of the edited video, officials stress the importance of viewing the complete context to understand the complexities of the situation.
