Prichard Police Chief Walter Knight and Major Alfred Tucker Indicted, Arrested in Corruption Investigation

PRICHARD, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A stunning new chapter has unfolded in the ongoing corruption investigation surrounding the Prichard Police Department as two of the city’s highest-ranking law enforcement officials have now been arrested and indicted by a Mobile County grand jury.

Prichard Police Chief Walter Knight and Major Alfred Tucker were taken into custody Tuesday following grand jury indictments stemming from an investigation led by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood, both men have been charged with theft by deception and using an official position for personal gain.

Blackwood said investigators allege the two officials improperly used city-owned vehicles and equipment while on duty to perform work for private companies, accusing them of working together in the scheme.

“The use of city vehicles, city equipment for working jobs for private companies while on duty… We believe they were working together,” Blackwood said following the arrests.

While the full details of the indictments have not yet been released, the arrests represent another major blow to a police department that has been under intense scrutiny in recent months.

The Prichard Police Department has faced mounting controversy since the earlier arrest of a former officer on corruption-related charges. He also expressed alarm that sexual assault evidence kits were being kept in a room without climate control, potentially jeopardizing critical evidence.

As deputies escorted the two men to waiting patrol vehicles, Chief Knight briefly maintained his innocence, telling reporters that he had done nothing wrong. Major Tucker declined to comment on the allegations, stating that any questions should be directed to his attorney.
