MEMPHIS, Tenn. (BuzzReport)- A sudden deluge overwhelmed parts of the Mid-South early Thursday morning, triggering a flash flood warning and leaving roadways submerged, stranding drivers, and causing widespread traffic chaos. The National Weather Service issued the warning as a powerful storm system swept through the region, unleashing torrential rainfall. Beyond Memphis, the impact of the severe weather was felt across the region. Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley took to social media to warn residents of widespread flooding across the county’s roadways. “We are experiencing significant flooding on roads all across Tipton County,” Sheriff Beasley posted. “Please exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel.” The severity of the situation in Tipton County was underscored by an incident on Mt. Carmel Road near Barnett Hall Road, where a tractor-trailer became stranded in the floodwaters. Sheriff Beasley confirmed the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has closed the road indefinitely due to the hazardous conditions. “Mt. Carmel Road is impassable,” Beasley stated. “TDOT will be closing it until the water recedes and they can assess any damage.” First responders are also dealing with a surge in weather-related motor vehicle accidents throughout the county. Sheriff Beasley urged residents to remain vigilant and report any emergencies. The flash flood warning is set to expire at 6:15 a.m., but authorities warn that the repercussions of the flooding will likely linger. Sheriff Beasley cautioned residents to anticipate further road closures in areas prone to flooding, even after the immediate threat has passed. “We know which roads tend to flood in these types of conditions,” Beasley said. “Expect those roads to remain closed until they can be deemed safe for travel.” Residents are urged to stay informed about road closures and weather updates through local news outlets, social media, and official government channels. The priority remains the safety of all residents as the Mid-South begins the arduous task of recovering from this morning’s flash flood.
