Mobile County, AL (BuzzReport)—Democratic candidates make a strong showing in Mobile County as Republicans maintain control of several major statewide offices and secure victories across Alabama.

Mobile County, Alabama, delivered a significant political message in the November 3, 2026, General Election, with Democratic candidates demonstrating strength in a county that remains an important battleground in statewide politics. However, despite Democratic support in Mobile County, Republicans continued to secure major victories across Alabama, keeping their grip on several of the state’s most powerful elected offices.

The election results highlight an important distinction between local voting patterns and statewide outcomes: Mobile County voters can favor Democratic candidates while the overall statewide electorate produces Republican victories.

Mobile County Sheriff: Paul Burch Wins Reelection

Republican incumbent Sheriff Paul Burch defeated Democratic challenger Pamela Laffitte, securing another four-year term as Mobile County’s top law enforcement official.

Burch’s reelection demonstrates that although Democratic candidates performed strongly in several countywide contests, Republican candidates continued to attract substantial support in important local races.

Laffitte campaigned on greater transparency and accountability, including expanded body-camera use and additional public oversight. Burch emphasized his administration’s crime-fighting initiatives and continued law enforcement programs.

What The Results Mean For Mobile County

The November 3 election revealed a divided political landscape.

Democrats demonstrated considerable strength in Mobile County’s statewide races, including the governor’s contest, U.S. Senate race and several constitutional offices. Their victories in House Districts 97, 98, 99 and 103 also demonstrated continued Democratic representation in the Alabama Legislature.

Republicans, however, maintained important positions through Sheriff Paul Burch’s reelection and victories in House Districts 100, 101, 102, 104 and 105. Republican Terry Waters also won Senate District 22.

The results illustrate that Mobile County’s Democratic preference in major statewide contests did not translate into Democratic victories in every local or legislative race.

For political observers, the most significant question moving forward is whether Democrats can turn their strong countywide performance into greater representation in future elections and win.

The 2026 election has once again demonstrated that Mobile County remains politically competitive, with both parties maintaining important bases of support.

The biggest takeaway: Mobile County may have gone blue in several major races, but Republicans still managed to win some of Alabama’s most consequential political battles.
