MOBILE, ALABAMA (BuzzReport) — Republican Tommy Tuberville has defeated Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama’s closely watched gubernatorial election, according to unofficial election results released Tuesday night, securing another term of Republican leadership in statewide politics and keeping the governor’s office in Republican hands.

Tuberville received 808,214 votes, representing 52.8% of the statewide vote, compared with Jones, who received 716,391 votes, or 46.8%. The unofficial results show Tuberville finishing with a statewide advantage of 91,823 votes.

The outcome marks a significant development in Alabama’s political landscape, as voters also selected Republican candidates in the U.S. Senate and lieutenant governor races. However, Democrats secured an important congressional victory in the newly contested 2nd Congressional District.

MOBILE COUNTY BACKS JONES, BUT BALDWIN COUNTY GOES FOR TUBERVILLE

The gubernatorial results revealed a geographic divide between Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Jones carried Mobile County, receiving 69,280 votes compared with Tuberville’s 57,597. The results demonstrate Jones’ ability to generate substantial support in the Mobile area.

However, Tuberville established a considerable advantage in neighboring Baldwin County, where he received 57,915 votes to Jones’ 25,060.

That margin helped strengthen Tuberville’s overall statewide lead and contributed to his victory.

Despite Jones’ performance in Mobile County, the Democratic candidate was unable to overcome Tuberville’s support across the state.

BARRY MOORE WINS U.S. SENATE RACE

Republican Barry Moore won Alabama’s U.S. Senate race, defeating Democrat Everett Wess.

Moore received 848,630 votes, or 55.7%, while Wess collected 674,069 votes, or 44.2%.

The results give Republicans another statewide victory and preserve their position in Alabama’s congressional delegation.

CONGRESSIONAL RACES PRODUCE SPLIT RESULTS

Alabama’s congressional contests produced victories for both major political parties, with Republicans holding the 1st Congressional District and Democrats capturing the 2nd Congressional District.

In the 1st Congressional District, Republican Jerry Carl defeated Democrat Clyde Jones by 41,553 votes.

Carl received 135,586 votes, representing 59.0%, while Jones finished with 94,033 votes, or 40.9%.

The 2nd Congressional District produced a Democratic victory as Shomari Figures defeated Republican Rhett Marques.

Figures received 124,422 votes, or 53.7%, compared with Marques’ 107,049 votes, or 46.2%. Figures won by 17,373 votes.

The outcome gives Democrats a significant congressional victory in a district that drew considerable attention during the election cycle.

REPUBLICANS WIN LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S RACE

Republican John Wahl also secured victory in the lieutenant governor’s race, defeating Democrat Phillip Ensler.

Wahl received 842,490 votes, or 55.3%, while Ensler collected 680,119 votes, representing 44.6%.

The result adds another Republican victory to an election night in which the party maintained control of Alabama’s major statewide executive offices.

ELECTION RESULTS REMAIN UNOFFICIAL

According to the Alabama Secretary of State’s election updates, approximately 1,538,195 ballots had been reported statewide.

All 67 Alabama counties had submitted election results, although 61 counties had reported results from every precinct at the time of the update.

The reported totals remain unofficial and are subject to the state’s canvassing and certification process.

Tuesday’s election delivered victories for Republicans in the governor, U.S. Senate and lieutenant governor contests, while Democrats captured the 2nd Congressional District and carried Mobile County in the gubernatorial race.

As Alabama moves toward the official certification of its election results, the numbers provide an early picture of the state’s political direction and the divisions that continue to shape its electorate.

Election Night Takeaway: Tuberville’s victory puts Republicans in position to retain Alabama’s governorship, while the congressional results show that Democrats remain competitive in parts of the state, particularly Mobile County and the 2nd Congressional District.
