JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (BuzzReport) — A man accused of leading deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before fleeing into a wooded area has been arrested and now faces multiple felony charges following a two-day investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the incident began on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., when Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle that had been reported out of Ocean Springs. Deputies located the vehicle near the intersection of Old Fort Bayou Road and Rose Farm Road in St. Martin.

Investigators said the driver refused to stop, prompting a brief pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle entered a wooded area off Old Fort Bayou Road near Eglin Road, adjacent to the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge.

The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Andrew Dilyn Hebert, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the dense wooded terrain.

Deputies immediately launched an extensive search operation, utilizing K-9 units and additional law enforcement resources in an effort to locate Hebert. Despite the intensive search, authorities were unable to find him at that time.

Following the incident, investigators secured arrest warrants charging Hebert with Receiving Stolen Property and Felony Fleeing.

The investigation took a significant turn the following day.

On Friday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 8:50 a.m., investigators received information indicating that Hebert had allegedly committed additional crimes while evading law enforcement. Authorities say he burglarized several vehicles before stealing another motor vehicle.

Less than two hours later, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Jackson County investigators located and arrested Hebert near the intersection of North 11th Street and Edgewater Street.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials recovered the stolen truck and gathered additional evidence believed to be connected to the reported offenses.

As a result of the continued investigation, Hebert now faces a growing list of charges. In addition to the previously issued warrants for Receiving Stolen Property and Felony Fleeing, he has also been charged with:

  • Three counts of Auto Burglary
  • One count of Motor Vehicle Theft

Authorities have not released further details regarding the evidence recovered or whether additional charges may be forthcoming.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Investigators are continuing to review evidence and follow up on leads connected to the case.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is urged to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 228-769-3063 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.

Hebert remains in custody as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system. Law enforcement officials emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
