MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A frightening crash shook a Toulminville neighborhood Tuesday evening after a vehicle slammed into a home around 6 p.m., causing significant damage and narrowly avoiding what could have been a deadly tragedy.

According to police, a man driving through the area allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. Investigators said the driver ran through a stop sign, jumped the curb, tore through a fence, and crashed directly into the living room of a residence in the heart of Toulminville.

Authorities said the impact caused major damage to the front portion of the home as neighbors rushed outside after hearing the loud crash.

Fortunately, no one was inside the living room when the vehicle crashed into the house. Police said the homeowner typically spends time in the living room during that hour, but was attending a friend’s party at the time of the incident. She reportedly returned home moments later to find emergency crews at the scene and the damaged truck being prepared for towing.

The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said he is expected to recover.

No additional injuries were reported, and authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
