MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — A 60-year-old man is facing robbery charges after police say he allegedly assaulted an employee while attempting to steal merchandise from an ALDI grocery store on Government Boulevard Sunday evening.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to ALDI, located at 1550 Government Boulevard, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, following reports of a robbery in progress.

Investigators say the incident began when a male suspect allegedly attempted to leave the store with merchandise that had not been paid for. As a store employee tried to recover the unpaid items, the suspect reportedly became physically violent, assaulting the employee during the confrontation.

Police said the suspect then ran from the store and attempted to get into a vehicle that was waiting outside. However, before he could enter, the driver pulled away from the scene, leaving him behind.

As officers continued their investigation, they determined the suspect had abandoned the stolen merchandise before fleeing the area on foot.

Following the investigation, officers identified and arrested Toney Worthy, 60, in connection with the incident. He was transported to the Mobile Metro Jail, where he was booked on robbery-related charges.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the condition of the employee involved or whether anyone else may face charges related to the waiting vehicle.

The Mobile Police Department said the investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
