BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A Baldwin County mother has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse following the death of her 17-month-old son, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the case began on May 5, 2026, when the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Alabama Department of Human Resources after a physician at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital raised concerns involving a toddler who was receiving emergency medical treatment.

Authorities said 22-year-old Kaitlynn Dominick brought her 17-month-old son to the hospital on May 4. The child died the following morning.

According to investigators, medical staff became alarmed after reviewing the child’s lab results, prompting the physician to file a mandatory report with DHR. During the early stages of the investigation, detectives learned the child suffered from a medical condition that required nourishment through a surgically implanted gastric feeding tube.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said investigators conducted extensive interviews with Dominick, medical personnel, relatives, and other individuals connected to the case in an effort to determine what led to the child’s death.

Authorities allege Dominick gave conflicting and inconsistent statements throughout the investigation.

During follow-up interviews, investigators said Dominick admitted to mixing a liquid solution and administering it to her son through the feeding tube, actions authorities say ultimately led to the child’s death.

On Tuesday, May 26, Dominick was formally charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse involving a child under the age of six.

Officials have not yet released additional details about the substance allegedly administered to the child or whether further charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The case remains under active investigation by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Alabama Department of Human Resources and medical personnel involved in the case.

The child’s identity has not been publicly released by authorities.
