ORANGE BEACH, AL (BuzzReport)— A boating accident along the Intracoastal Waterway near The Wharf Marina sent nine people to area hospitals Saturday night, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving multiple agencies. According to the City of Orange Beach, the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, when the Orange Beach Police Department responded to assist Orange Beach Fire Rescue and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) following a vessel accident near The Wharf Marina. Officials confirmed that nine people were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities have not released information regarding the severity of the victims’ injuries or their current conditions. Emergency crews from several agencies responded to the scene, including Orange Beach Fire Rescue, Medstar Ambulance, and Gulf Shores Fire Rescue. A medical helicopter was also dispatched to transport some of the injured patients, while Orange Beach Police officers secured the scene, assisted first responders, and established landing zones for Air Care helicopters. At this time, officials have not disclosed how many boats were involved in the accident or what may have caused the collision. Those details remain under investigation. Under Alabama’s standard operating procedures for marine crashes, ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division is leading the investigation and will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are expected to release additional information as investigators continue examining the crash, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.
