Monroe, LA (BuzzReport) — A 40-year-old Monroe man has been arrested following allegations that he violently assaulted his teenage son during a domestic incident that unfolded in the presence of a one-year-old child. According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Demario Latrell Johnson was taken into custody on February 15, 2026, after deputies responded to a complaint of an altercation inside a residence. Investigators reported that the incident began when Johnson’s 17-year-old son was in a bedroom with his one-year-old sister, who started crying. The teenager told deputies that Johnson became increasingly agitated by the infant’s cries and began striking him without provocation. Witnesses and the victim stated that Johnson repeatedly punched the teen in the head and stomach with closed fists while the victim was lying on a bed. The teenager reportedly attempted to shield himself from the blows as the assault continued. Authorities said the confrontation escalated and moved from the bedroom into the kitchen area. An affidavit notes that the teenager armed himself with a knife in an effort to deter further violence or defend himself. Witnesses emphasized that the teen never attempted to strike or cut his father. When deputies arrived, they observed redness on the victim’s face, though no significant bruising was immediately visible. A witness confirmed that the one-year-old child was present in the room during the initial assault, raising concerns about the infant’s safety. Johnson was later located by deputies, advised of his Miranda rights, and declined to provide a statement regarding the incident. He was booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center on two counts of Domestic Abuse Battery and one count of child endangerment. The case has been forwarded to the Ouachita Parish District Court for further proceedings.
