Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A member of the historic Order of Myths was removed from a parade float and briefly detained by police Tuesday night after an incident during the final Fat Tuesday parade of the 2026 Mardi Gras season in downtown Mobile. According to authorities, Mobile Police Department halted the parade near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Conti Street after reports of unsafe conduct involving a float rider. Officers handcuffed and detained the individual, who was riding on the “Fisherman and His Wife” float, a signature float associated with the Order of Myths. Police later confirmed that the rider was not arrested. In a statement, MPD said the individual was detained briefly for aggressively tossing throws at parade revelers, behavior officials deemed dangerous given the crowded conditions and family-oriented nature of the event. “He was detained for safety reasons and subsequently released,” officials said. “The organization will handle the matter internally.” The incident occurred during the final parade of Mardi Gras, a night traditionally marked by large crowds and heightened excitement as the season comes to a close. While no injuries were reported, witnesses said the moment caused a temporary disruption as police addressed the situation. The Order of Myths, one of Mobile’s oldest and most prominent Mardi Gras societies, has not released a public statement detailing any internal disciplinary action but acknowledged police involvement. City officials emphasized that public safety remains a priority during all Mardi Gras events, noting that parade participants are expected to follow strict conduct guidelines to protect spectators. The parade resumed shortly after the rider was removed, allowing Fat Tuesday festivities to conclude without further incident.
