BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (BuzzReport)— Nearly three years after a violent domestic attack left an infant dead and a family shattered, Stephen Michael Clare, 53, is scheduled to stand trial in March 2026 in a case that prosecutors say represents one of the most disturbing acts of family violence in recent county history.

Clare is accused of carrying out a brutal assault in 2023 that killed his 11-month-old daughter and critically injured his ex-wife and their 2-year-old daughter. Two older children were able to escape the attack without physical injuries, authorities said.

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office has charged Clare with capital murder of a child under the age of 10, attempted capital murder, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors have formally announced they are seeking the death penalty, underscoring the severity of the allegations.

According to court records, surveillance footage obtained during the investigation reportedly shows Clare chasing his ex-wife during the attack, a detail prosecutors are expected to emphasize when the case goes before a jury.

Clare has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

As pretrial proceedings continue, defense attorneys have filed motions seeking to suppress statements Clare allegedly made to a Child Protective Services investigator following his arrest, arguing the statements should not be admitted as evidence at trial. A judge has not yet ruled on those motions.

Clare remains in the Bexar County Jail, where he is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

The upcoming trial is expected to draw significant public attention, as it combines allegations of extreme domestic violence, the death of a child, and the possibility of capital punishment.
