NASHVILLE, TN. (BuzzReport) — A Frito-Lay employee was killed while working inside a Sam’s Club on Antioch Pike after a bullet fired outside the store pierced a side metal wall and struck him in the head, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Paris Carlock, 55, of Murfreesboro. Carlock was working in the chip aisle near the center of the store when the gunfire erupted. A round traveled through the building’s exterior metal wall and struck him, authorities said.

Store employees rushed to Carlock’s side after he was hit while emergency responders were called. Despite efforts to save him, he died from his injuries.

The shooting has raised questions about how gunfire outside the business reached the store’s interior and struck a person who was not involved in the apparent confrontation. Investigators are working to determine where the bullet was fired, who may have been responsible, and what events led to the gunfire near the Antioch Pike location.

Police Investigation Underway

Metro Nashville police are investigating the shooting. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a suspect or motive in the information available.

Detectives are expected to examine the store’s exterior, the damaged wall, surveillance footage, ballistic evidence, and witness accounts as they reconstruct the shooting.

Investigators will also work to determine whether the gunfire was targeted or resulted from an unrelated dispute outside the Sam’s Club. The bullet’s path through the wall could help police identify the shooter’s location and establish the direction from which the round traveled.

Employees Rushed to Help

The shooting created a chaotic scene inside the store. Staff members immediately moved toward Carlock and attempted to provide assistance while emergency responders were summoned.

The incident underscores the danger of gunfire in and around busy commercial areas, where bullets can travel beyond their intended target and strike people inside nearby buildings.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether anyone else was injured or whether an arrest has been made.

Police Seek Information

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting, saw suspicious activity near the Sam’s Club, or has information about the gunfire to contact Metro Nashville police.

Video recorded by customers, nearby businesses, passing motorists, or residents could help detectives identify the shooter and determine what happened before the bullet entered the store.

The investigation remains active. Carlock’s death has left his family, coworkers, and members of the Nashville community mourning a workplace tragedy in which gunfire outside a store claimed the life of a man simply doing his job.
