SEMMES, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A routine patrol in the early morning hours of Sunday escalated into a tense and dangerous confrontation that left one suspect hospitalized and a police officer injured, according to Semmes Police. Authorities say that around 3 a.m., officers on patrol noticed an open door at a business located at 7461 Moffett Road. Concerned about a possible break-in, officers entered the building to clear it. While searching the interior, they discovered a camper trailer parked inside the business. Police reported seeing movement inside the trailer and announced their presence. Moments later, a man opened the trailer door and began firing at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times. As shots continued, officers withdrew from the building to take cover. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was called in to assist. After approximately two hours of negotiation, deputies were able to convince the suspect to surrender and exit the building peacefully. The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Johnny Bowman Jr. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he remains under treatment for his injuries. During the exchange, one officer was struck by a bullet, suffering a graze wound to the lower back. Police said the injury was not life-threatening. The incident remains under investigation. No additional details about possible charges or the circumstances leading to the suspect’s presence inside the business have been released. Semmes Police praised the coordinated response between agencies, noting that the situation ended without further loss of life despite the significant danger involved.
