Mobile, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A tense hours-long standoff on Tuscaloosa Street came to a peaceful end Sunday afternoon, but not before three Mobile police officers were injured, including one who was shot and remains in critical condition, officials confirmed.

Mobile Police said the situation concluded around 12:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Tuscaloosa Street, where officers had responded just before 10 a.m. to a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, a suspect opened fire, striking one officer and later shooting at an armored police vehicle, according to Police Chief William Jackson.

The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital and is undergoing surgery. Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said the officer is in critical but stable condition. Two additional officers were injured in a traffic accident while responding to the scene and were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police emphasized that officers did not fire any shots during the incident and that no one inside the residence was injured.

Around noon, a man and a woman exited the home and were taken into custody without further incident. Chief Jackson identified the suspect as 27-year-old Justin Senia. The woman, later identified as 34-year-old Arielle Perreault, was also arrested. Authorities initially said it was unclear what role Perreault played, but both were booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail.

“We used every asset we could to make sure it ended that way,” Jackson said, praising officers for their restraint and coordination. “The investigation is fluid and ongoing.”

Officials said the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

During a press conference, Mayor Cheriogotis asked the community to keep the injured officer and his family in their prayers.

“I’m asking for everyone in our community to pray for him, pray for his recovery, pray for his family, and pray for the entire MPD family as we go through this difficult time,” the mayor said. He also commended the police department for its “bravery, professionalism, and restraint.”

Mobile Public Safety Director Curtis Graves echoed those sentiments, saying officers “averted something that could have been very detrimental to our community.”

“We’re thankful to God that nothing worse happened today,” Graves said. “This should be an example of what teamwork looks like. MPD showed the entire community what it means to work together, and we need the community to stand with us as we work to improve public safety.”

Senia and Perreault face multiple charges, including attempted murder. Jail records indicate both are scheduled for bond hearings on Monday.
