Mount Vernon, AL (BuzzReport) – A 21-year-old Mount Vernon man is fighting for his life after being shot twice in the back late Saturday night while walking his girlfriend to her car, according to officials. The reckless violence extended beyond the initial target, as a nearby witness reported two bullet strikes found on their vehicle.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was called in over the weekend to assist Mount Vernon police with the investigation into the shooting that left Geremy Perryman critically injured.

The incident unfolded around 10:21 p.m. Saturday when the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) first received a call reporting shots fired. Moments later, the department received a second, more urgent call confirming a person had been shot on Karen Drive.

Responding officers located the victim, Geremy Perryman, who had sustained two gunshot wounds to his back. Perryman was rushed to a local hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition, authorities confirmed.

The Immediate Aftermath

According to witness accounts provided to the sheriff’s office, the attack appeared sudden and potentially targeted. Perryman was reportedly walking his girlfriend to her vehicle when the silence was shattered by rapid gunfire. The girlfriend immediately drove away from the scene as Perryman ran back toward his residence, bleeding heavily from his injuries.

However, the nature of the ambush suggests a dangerous drive-by, an assessment supported by a separate and harrowing witness report hours later.

Stray Bullets Strike Innocent Bystander

A second witness reported hearing the gunfire while stopped at the intersection of Military Road and Shepard Lake Road, located nearby. This individual told investigators they saw two vehicles speed off from Shepard Lake Road, turning onto Military Road immediately after the shots were heard.

Crucially, this witness later discovered that the volley of gunfire had struck their own, uninvolved vehicle. Investigators confirmed two bullet strikes on the passing car, underscoring the extreme danger posed to the surrounding community by the reckless use of firearms.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has ramped up its efforts, focusing on gathering video surveillance from area residents and conducting follow-up interviews with all potential witnesses.

Investigators are emphasizing the need for community assistance to identify the vehicles and individuals responsible for the shooting. Anyone who may have information about this attack, or who may have seen the two vehicles speeding away from the intersection, is urged to come forward.
