Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – The Mobile Police Department demonstrated its unwavering commitment to public safety and traffic law enforcement with a highly effective directed operation in and around the Central Precinct on Friday, September 5, 2025. Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., officers meticulously patrolled the downtown area, taking significant action against drivers non-compliant with state and local traffic regulations.

The robust enforcement initiative resulted in a commanding 100 citations issued and 47 warnings to drivers, underscoring the department’s resolve to maintain order on Mobile’s roadways. The primary goal of the precinct-wide crackdown was to ensure all drivers abide by essential traffic laws, thereby enhancing safety for everyone in the bustling downtown district.

During the operation, officers conducted thorough checks for valid driver’s licenses, proof of insurance, and current vehicle tag registrations. The most prevalent offense detected was speeding, with officers issuing a substantial 41 citations and 8 warnings for excessive vehicle speeds. This focused enforcement directly addresses a critical factor in road accidents and public nuisance.

Further demonstrating the seriousness of the operation, three arrests were made:

  • Jacob Wright, 19, was arrested for Attempt to Elude.
  • Carlos Broadnax, 47, faced charges of DUI and Resisting Arrest.
  • Kentay Williams, 30, was arrested for DUI.

“Our directed enforcement operations are a critical component of our strategy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community,” stated Captain Marcus Thorne of the Central Precinct. “The numbers from Friday night clearly illustrate the need for such proactive measures. We are sending a strong message that traffic violations will not be tolerated, and we will continue to hold drivers accountable for their actions to protect our residents and visitors.”

Other significant violations addressed included:

  • Red Light violations: 9 citations, 2 warnings
  • Stop Sign infractions: 7 citations, 1 warning
  • No Insurance: 10 citations, 1 warning
  • Equipment Violations: 6 citations, 9 warnings
  • DUI: 2 citations (in addition to the arrests)

The Mobile Police Department is not resting on its laurels. Officers will once again be conducting a traffic operation on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the downtown area, signaling a continued, vigilant presence to uphold traffic laws and cultivate a safer driving environment for all.
