Firefighters respond to the scene of an incident.

CALVERT, AL (BuzzReport) – Two individuals tragically lost their lives late Tuesday night following a devastating two-vehicle collision on Highway 43 in Calvert. Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to the scene, where both vehicles were found engulfed in flames.

The McIntosh Fire Department responded to a call at 10:35 PM to assist the Fairford Volunteer Fire Department with a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident. Initial reports indicated entrapment and a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, responders were confronted with a grim scene, with both vehicles already fully engulfed in flames.

“Unfortunately, we had two fatalities,” stated the McIntosh Fire Department in a public release following the incident.

The extensive emergency response involved numerous agencies working in concert. Firefighting efforts were managed by personnel from McIntosh Fire Department, Fairford Volunteer Fire Department, Charity Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, and Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. Newman’s Ambulance was on standby, and law enforcement agencies, including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, McIntosh Police Department, Mt. Vernon Police Department, ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency), and Chatom Police Department, secured the area and began their investigation. Washington County 911 coordinated the significant multi-agency effort.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or details regarding the cause of the crash, as the investigation remains ongoing.
