Multiple People Detained After Traffic Stop Linked to Drive-By Shooting Investigation in South Mississippi

MAGNOLIA, MS (BuzzReport)— A coordinated law enforcement operation led to the detention of multiple individuals Thursday evening after authorities stopped a vehicle believed to be connected to a drive-by shooting that occurred earlier in neighboring Walthall County.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies and detectives assigned to the department’s Gang Unit conducted a traffic stop on Highway 48 within the city limits of Magnolia, Mississippi. The vehicle was occupied by several individuals who were being sought for questioning in connection with a drive-by shooting reported in Walthall County roughly one hour before the stop.

Investigators say Pike County authorities quickly coordinated with the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office after receiving information related to the shooting, allowing deputies to locate and stop the suspect vehicle before it could leave the area.

During the investigation, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered multiple firearms along with controlled substances, adding additional criminal allegations to the case. Authorities have not yet released the exact number of weapons or the type and quantity of narcotics seized.

The individuals detained during the traffic stop are being transported to the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office, where investigators will continue questioning them regarding the drive-by shooting investigation. Meanwhile, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that additional criminal charges are pending as detectives continue processing evidence collected during the stop.

Pike County Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones praised the swift response of his deputies while delivering a strong warning to those involved in criminal activity.

“Once again, this is a message to the criminal element: Don’t come to Pike County because you’re going to get caught. We are not playing games when it comes to protecting our communities. We are tough on crime, and we will not allow criminals to affect the quality of life of the citizens of Pike County or the citizens of our neighboring counties. If you choose to bring crime into this area, you should expect to be held accountable.”

Sheriff Jones also commended the close working relationship between the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office, emphasizing that the successful operation highlights the importance of regional cooperation in combating violent crime across county lines.

Authorities have not released the identities of those detained, nor have they provided details about the victims or circumstances surrounding the drive-by shooting in Walthall County.

The investigation remains active, and additional arrests or charges could follow as detectives continue reviewing evidence and conducting interviews.
