Prichard, AL (BuzzReport) – The Ladd-Pebbles Stadium once again played host to one of the most anticipated local rivalries on Friday night, as the Vigor Wolfpacks defeated the Blount Leopards 21-6 in the annual “Battle of Prichard” football contest. In a clash between two storied programs from the “City of Champions,” Vigor showcased its offensive firepower and defensive grit to kick off their 2025 season with a decisive victory.

Under the bright Friday night lights, a massive crowd of enthusiastic fans packed the stands, buzzing with camaraderie and competitive spirit. Despite the fierce on-field rivalry, the atmosphere remained a testament to the shared pride of Prichard, a community that loves to see its marquee schools compete in this celebrated annual event. While Vigor, led by Head Coach Renardo Jackson, secured the win, both teams continue to represent their city with unwavering passion.

The Wolfpacks’ offense was spearheaded by a stellar performance from senior running back Demetrius Johnson, who ground out 90 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Sammy Dunn was equally impressive, completing 13-of-26 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a crucial rushing score. Dunn’s favorite target, receiver Dylan Jackson, had a monster night, hauling in 10 receptions for 144 yards and finding the end zone, electrifying the Vigor faithful. Donnivan Padgett also contributed to the scoring, punching in a 9-yard run that further solidified Vigor’s grip on the game.

Class 5A No. 2 Vigor demonstrated why they are a perennial powerhouse, extending their winning streak over Class 6A Blount to six consecutive years. This latest victory pushes Vigor’s commanding lead in the series to 40-14, a testament to their sustained dominance in the rivalry.

Blount, despite their best efforts, struggled to contain the surging Vigor offense. The Leopards managed to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter, picking up 6 points, but their offensive drives lacked the consistent power needed to overcome the Wolfpacks’ determined defense or mount a significant comeback.

With this commanding performance, Vigor kicks off their 2025 football season strong, holding a 1-0 record and setting an early tone for what promises to be another championship-caliber campaign. The “Battle of Prichard” may have crowned a victor, but the spirit of competition and community continues to thrive between these two proud Prichard institutions.
