Man Airlifted After Baldwin County Shooting; Suspect Arrested on First-Degree Assault Charge

BALDWIN COUNTY, AL (BuzzReport)— A late-night altercation in Baldwin County ended in gunfire Wednesday night, leaving one man seriously wounded and another behind bars on a felony assault charge.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to John Hall Lane in the Vernant Park Community shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, following reports of shots fired with one person injured.

When deputies arrived, they immediately secured the scene and began providing emergency medical aid to the victim. Authorities said the suspected shooter was taken into custody at the scene without incident, preventing any further violence.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a local trauma center for emergency treatment. His current condition has not been released.

As first responders worked to stabilize the victim, investigators and Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene, documenting evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.

Following the preliminary investigation, detectives established probable cause to charge the suspect with Assault in the First Degree, a serious felony under Alabama law involving the intentional infliction of severe physical injury. The suspect was transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center without incident.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the suspect or the victim, and no additional charges have been announced.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the individuals involved and emphasize that this was an isolated incident. Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
