Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – The Robert Battles campaign has ignited a fiery debate in the District 7 City Council race, demanding incumbent Councilwoman Gina Gregory publicly state her position on potential policy changes under a second Donald Trump presidency. At the heart of the controversy is the looming threat to crucial safety net programs that serve Mobile’s low-income and impoverished residents.

Citing concerns over potential cuts or eliminations of SNAP benefits, Section 8 Housing, Medicaid, Medicare, and vital early childhood benefits, the Battles campaign has issued a press release outlining the high stakes for the community.

“The people of District 7 deserve to know where their elected officials stand,” declared Robert Battles, candidate for District 7. “These are not abstract political games. We are talking about the very real survival and well-being of our neighbors, our families, and our friends.”

Battles sharpened the point with a direct challenge to Councilwoman Gregory: “Does she support the policies of Donald Trump, or does she not support Donald Trump and his policies? It’s a simple question with profound consequences for the future of our city.”

The campaign is taking a firm stand, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to the well-being of Mobile’s most vulnerable citizens. “As a candidate for the people, I stand with our poor, low income, and middle-class citizens,” Battles asserted. “I will ensure they have a right to a better quality of life, affordable housing, quality healthcare in our city, and access to daily meals.”

The Battles campaign argues that a clear and unambiguous statement from Councilwoman Gregory is not merely desirable, but absolutely necessary. They believe that the potential for significant policy shifts under a Trump administration poses a direct and undeniable threat to the fabric of District 7 and the city as a whole.

With the election fast approaching, the pressure is mounting on Councilwoman Gregory to address the questions raised by the Battles campaign.

Robert Battles, Sr. and Incumbent Gina Gregory is the only two candidates to have qualified as of today. We reached out to the Gregory campaign and haven’t received a response at the time of this story.

Mobile municipal elections will take place on Tuesday, August 26th.
