Minneapolis, MN (BuzzReport) – A late-night mass shooting in South Minneapolis has claimed the lives of three individuals and left two others fighting for their lives. The tragic incident unfolded near the intersection of Bloomington Avenue South and East 25th Street, in Ward 9, represented by Council Member Jason Chavez.

Minneapolis police and emergency medical services responded to a call at approximately 12:10 a.m. Sunday night, arriving at the scene to find five victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, who addressed the media in a press conference early Monday morning, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the two surviving victims to a nearby trauma center, where they remain in critical condition.

“This is a devastating event for our community,” Chief O’Hara stated. “Our officers are working diligently to piece together what happened and bring those responsible to justice.”

While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, Chief O’Hara indicated a strong suspicion that the victims were specifically targeted. “Based on the information we have gathered so far, we believe this was not a random act of violence,” he explained. “There is a high probability that the victims were targeted.”

Details surrounding the motive and the identity of the shooter(s) remain unclear. The Minneapolis Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward and contact the authorities.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the South Minneapolis neighborhood, prompting expressions of grief and concern from community leaders and residents alike. Council Member Jason Chavez has yet to release an official statement but is expected to address the situation later today.
