Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Former Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Daniel Holifield is facing additional criminal charges after a Mobile County Grand Jury returned a new three-count indictment accusing him of Theft of Property First Degree by Deception.

The announcement was made today by local prosecutors, who confirmed the latest indictment is separate from the 13-count indictment previously returned against Holifield in August 2025.

According to officials, the Grand Jury determined there was sufficient evidence for the new charges to proceed through the judicial system. Prosecutors emphasized that an indictment is not a conviction, but rather a formal accusation that allows the case to move forward in court.

Authorities have not yet publicly released detailed information regarding the allegations tied to the additional counts. However, officials indicated the charges stem from accusations that Holifield used deception in connection with the theft allegations.

The case has continued to draw significant public attention due to Holifield’s former position within the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, where he served in a leadership role as a sergeant.

In a strongly worded statement, prosecutors stressed the seriousness of allegations involving public officials accused of abusing positions of trust for personal gain.

“When someone is entrusted with serving the public, that position carries a responsibility to uphold the law and act with integrity,” the statement read. “Allegations that a public servant used that position for personal gain strike at the heart of the trust our community places in its institutions.”

Officials also stated that the investigation remains focused on accountability and following the evidence wherever it leads.

“My office will continue to follow the evidence wherever it leads and seek accountability for any criminal conduct uncovered,” prosecutors said. “No one is above the law, regardless of position or title.”

Holifield is expected to be arraigned in Mobile County Circuit Court in the coming weeks, where he will formally respond to the new charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
