Five Teens Charged in Birmingham Shooting That Injured Three People, Including Suspected Gunman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Five teenagers have been charged in connection with a Birmingham shooting that left three people injured, including a suspected gunman, according to Birmingham police.

The shooting occurred on the evening of May 27 in the 3200 block of Aspen Avenue Southwest. Officers with the Birmingham Police Department’s West Precinct responded to reports of gunfire around 7:50 p.m. and arrived to find two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A third individual who had also been shot was transported to a hospital by private vehicle before officers arrived.

Authorities said a teenage boy was transported to Children’s of Alabama for treatment, while an adult woman was taken to UAB Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Investigators later identified the third shooting victim as a possible suspect in the incident. Police said that individual also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, multiple rounds were fired during the shooting. Preliminary findings indicate that those involved fled the area in a vehicle immediately after the gunfire erupted. Following an investigation, officers located multiple suspects and persons of interest who allegedly attempted to evade law enforcement before being detained and questioned.

Police have since announced that five teenagers have been charged in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not publicly released the names of the juveniles because of their ages. The specific charges filed against each suspect have not yet been disclosed.

Birmingham Police credited residents who quickly reported hearing gunshots, allowing officers to respond rapidly to the scene. Officials emphasized that there was no ongoing threat to the surrounding community following the arrests.
