Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A Mt. Vernon man has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly crash that claimed the life of a woman earlier this month in Mobile, according to the Mobile Police Department. Police said 32-year-old Clifton Land IV was taken into custody on Thursday, May 28, and charged with manslaughter stemming from a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on May 14. According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 5:45 a.m. to the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Willow Brook Run East after receiving reports of a serious crash. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two heavily damaged vehicles and found that one of the drivers had died as a result of the collision. The victim was identified as 54-year-old Stacey Neese. Authorities said Neese was attempting to enter westbound traffic on Airport Boulevard when her vehicle was struck by a Dodge Charger allegedly driven by Land. Investigators determined that the Dodge Charger was traveling westbound on Airport Boulevard at the time of the crash before colliding with Neese’s vehicle at a speed of 119 in a 45 mph zone. Neese was pronounced dead at the scene. Following an investigation by the Mobile Police Department, Land was arrested and formally charged with manslaughter. Jail records show he is currently awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation remains ongoing.
