Escambia County, Florida (BuzzReport) — Tensions appear to be escalating between the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange Beach Police Department after a controversial social media statement accused officers of transporting an individual across state lines and damaging interagency relations.

The public dispute erupted after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a press release issued by Orange Beach officials regarding an incident involving a man allegedly transported from Orange Beach, Alabama, to Escambia County, Florida.

In a strongly worded Facebook statement, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office challenged the version of events released by Orange Beach authorities, claiming the individual involved gave deputies a different account during interactions captured on body camera footage.

“Recently the City of Orange Beach put out a press release indicating that an individual requested a ride from the Orange Beach PD, 30 miles away, to Escambia County, Florida,” the sheriff’s office stated. “This information contradicts what the individual himself told our deputy, twice, as evidenced in the following body camera footage.”

The sheriff’s office went on to criticize the decision to allegedly transport someone outside city, county, and state boundaries, suggesting the move placed an unfair burden on Florida taxpayers and strained relations between neighboring agencies.

“Regardless, we believe that taking the time to transport a person outside of your city, outside of your county, and even outside of your state is not conducive to a positive working relationship,” the statement continued. “And is certainly not fair to our tax payers!”

The controversy intensified further when the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office appeared to take a direct shot at Orange Beach leadership.

“P.S. We understand that the Mayor of Orange Beach made a snarky comment about our Sheriff….that’s cute!” the post concluded.

The exchange has sparked widespread discussion online, with many questioning whether growing friction exists between the two Gulf Coast agencies. Others have debated whether law enforcement should transport individuals across jurisdictional lines under any circumstances unless criminal charges or formal agreements are involved.

At this time, neither agency has announced any formal disciplinary action or policy changes connected to the incident. It also remains unclear what specific circumstances led to the transport in question or whether additional video footage will be released publicly.
