DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. (BuzzReport) — Mississippi State Representative Jeffery Hale was arrested Friday in DeSoto County on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and reckless driving, according to booking records.

Records show Hale was taken into custody by the Hernando Police Department shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

The longtime lawmaker is facing charges of reckless driving, first-offense DUI, speeding, and disorderly conduct for failure to comply. Authorities have not yet released additional details surrounding the circumstances that led to the arrest.

Booking information indicates Hale was later released from custody early Saturday morning after posting a $1,500 bond.

Hale has served as the representative for Mississippi’s 24th District since 2016 and has been a known figure in state politics for nearly a decade.

The arrest places renewed attention on accountability for elected officials and comes as public scrutiny continues to grow over conduct involving public servants across the state.

Court records show Hale is scheduled to appear before a judge on August 26 as the case moves forward through the legal process.
