MARION, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A Marion man is behind bars after police say he opened fire into a vehicle occupied by a woman and an infant before leading authorities on a search across multiple jurisdictions Tuesday afternoon. According to the Marion Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:16 p.m. to reports of shots fired near West Alabama Bank on Washington Street in Marion. Investigators identified the suspect as Terry Deonta Harris. Authorities allege Harris fired multiple shots into an occupied vehicle while a woman and an infant were inside. Police also say Harris assaulted the female victim and attempted to force her to drive into an occupied building during the violent encounter. Following the incident, Harris reportedly fled the scene in a semi-truck, prompting a coordinated law enforcement response involving several agencies across the region. Authorities said the suspect was later located near the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 80, where he was taken into custody without further incident. Multiple agencies assisted in the apprehension, including the Uniontown Police Department, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and Perry County E-911 Dispatch. Harris was transported to the Marengo County Jail where he faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, reckless endangerment, domestic violence/assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. In a statement released on social media, Marion police praised the swift response of law enforcement officers involved in the case. “We are thankful that no innocent lives were lost during this dangerous incident, and we thank and commend all responding officers and agencies for their professionalism, teamwork, and rapid action in helping bring this situation to a safe conclusion,” the department stated. “Violent crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in our community, and the Marion Police Department remains committed to protecting the citizens of Marion and holding offenders accountable.” Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be filed as detectives continue gathering evidence.
