Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)- A deadly confrontation between two elderly men on St. Stephens Road is now moving forward in court, with the case set to be reviewed by a grand jury.

Sammy Louis Tate, 60, has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in connection to the beating death of 81-year-old Charles Edward. The charge under consideration is reckless manslaughter.

Authorities say the incident occurred in a parking lot along St. Stephens Road, where officers found Edward unresponsive. He later died from injuries sustained during the altercation.

According to the defense, Tate and Edward were casually familiar with one another through the neighborhood, and the situation escalated from an argument into a physical confrontation involving both men.

After reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with investigators, Tate’s attorney determined a preliminary hearing was unnecessary.

Tate remains free on a $15,000 bond as the case progresses through the judicial system.
