Selma, AL (BuzzReport) — Police in Selma are investigating two separate shootings that left eight people injured over the weekend near events connected to the annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee.

According to the Selma Police Department, the first shooting occurred around 1:25 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue, not far from areas where Jubilee events were taking place.

Investigators say a fight broke out among a group of individuals before gunfire erupted. Six people were struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details about the victims’ conditions.

Police confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody and charged with assault in connection with the shooting. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.

A second shooting occurred later during the Jubilee Festival after another altercation broke out. Officers say two people were shot during that incident. Both victims were taken for medical treatment, and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

As of now, no arrests have been made in the second shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
