Conecuh County, AL (BuzzReport) — A prominent Evergreen dentist is facing serious felony charges following a lengthy investigation into a mysterious explosion at his dental practice. Dr. Douglas O’Connor has been charged with second-degree arson and first-degree insurance fraud, authorities confirmed Friday. The charges stem from a 10-month investigation into an explosion that damaged O’Connor’s dental office in Evergreen, raising early suspicions about the cause of the incident. The investigation was conducted jointly by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office, officials said. While details of the findings have not yet been released, investigators allege the explosion was intentionally set and tied to an insurance scheme. O’Connor turned himself in to authorities on Friday, January 23, and was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Conecuh County Jail, where he remains pending bond. No injuries were reported in connection with the explosion. Court records indicate that additional information may be presented as the case proceeds through the judicial system. This is a developing story. BuzzReport will continue to provide updates as more details become available.
