Prichard, AL (BuzzReport) — Hope took a tangible shape in Prichard on January 21 as city, county, and community leaders gathered near City Hall to celebrate a major milestone in affordable housing: the completion of four newly constructed homes designed to strengthen neighborhoods and expand homeownership opportunities.

Mayor Carletta Davis joined Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, Prichard City Council President Traci Hale, Council members Stephani Johnson-Norwood, Annie Williams, and Teresa Fox-Bettis, along with housing advocates and residents, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official launch of the Housing Authority of the City of Prichard’s Infill Homes Program.

The newly built homes, located within walking distance of City Hall, represent an investment of approximately $600,000and reflect a collaborative effort among the Mobile County Commission, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Prichard Housing Authority, and the City of Prichard. Heritage Homes served as the project’s contractor.

Designed as a neighborhood stabilization initiative, the Infill Homes Program focuses on transforming vacant or underutilized lots into quality, affordable housing—revitalizing communities while creating pathways to homeownership for working families.

“This project is about more than new houses—it’s about rebuilding confidence in our neighborhoods and bringing families back home to Prichard,” Mayor Davis said during the ceremony. She emphasized that the initiative aligns directly with her administration’s commitment to long-term revitalization and sustainable growth. The City, she added, will continue evaluating available land to identify future sites for additional infill housing developments.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of Brooke Howard, who made history as the first resident to move into one of the newly constructed homes. Her milestone moment symbolized the promise behind the project—new beginnings, renewed stability, and expanded opportunity for Prichard families.

Commissioner Ludgood and city council leaders echoed the mayor’s message, underscoring the importance of partnerships in addressing housing needs and fostering economic resilience across the community.

The City of Prichard reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside local, state, and federal partners to advance initiatives that uplift residents and create thriving neighborhoods. As these four homes open their doors, they stand as a visible sign of progress—and a blueprint for what’s to come.
