SELMA, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A quiet Selma neighborhood was shaken Thursday night after a deadly shooting claimed the life of a 43-year-old man, prompting a homicide investigation and an arrest under Alabama’s strict Aniah’s Law. According to the Selma Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 16, 2026, in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue. When they arrived, they found Mark Myles, 43, suffering from fatal injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, Myles was pronounced dead at the scene. Following an investigation, police identified Allen McCampbell, also 43, as a suspect in the case. McCampbell was taken into custody and formally charged with murder. Due to the severity of the charge, authorities confirmed that a no-bond warrant was issued pursuant to Aniah’s Law, which allows judges to deny bail for individuals charged with certain violent offenses. Police officials said no further details will be released at this time, citing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. “The Selma Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Myles,” the department said in a statement. “We remain committed to public safety and to ensuring justice is served.” The investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Selma Police Department. This tragic incident marks another reminder of the impact of violent crime on the Selma community, as residents await answers and authorities continue their pursuit of justice.
