By BuzzReport StaffNew Orleans, LA — January 17, 2026 A quiet stretch of Orleans Avenue erupted into chaos Thursday night after a shooting left one man dead and three women fighting for their lives, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Just after 8:00 p.m. on January 16, NOPD First District officers rushed to the 2300 block of Orleans Avenue following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered four victims suffering from gunshot wounds—three adult females and one adult male—scattered at the scene. Despite life-saving efforts, the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency Medical Services transported the three women to a nearby hospital, where authorities say two remain in critical condition and one is listed as stable. The brazen act of violence has shaken nearby residents, many of whom reported hearing multiple gunshots in rapid succession. Investigators have cordoned off the area as they work through the night and into the early morning hours, collecting evidence, canvassing for witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage. At this time, police have not identified a suspect or a motive. “This remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation,” NOPD officials said in a statement, noting that additional details will be released as they become available. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim and the official cause of death following completion of an autopsy and notification of the victim’s family. As detectives search for answers, authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help bring those responsible to justice. Anyone with tips is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300, or submit information anonymously through Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111, 1-877-903-STOP, or online at www.crimestoppersgno.org. This is a developing story. BuzzReport will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
