Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A shoplifting call escalated into a serious public safety incident Tuesday evening when a woman allegedly threatened violence against a store employee at a west Mobile thrift store, police said.

Officers were dispatched to America’s Thrift Store, located at 5441 Highway 90 W., at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, after receiving a report of a female subject leaving the business with unpaid merchandise.

According to authorities, the situation intensified in the parking lot, where the suspect allegedly threatened to shoot a store employee before fleeing the immediate area. No weapon was reported displayed, and no injuries were reported.

Responding officers quickly identified the suspect and located her nearby. The woman, identified as Apryl McLeod, 27, was taken into custody without incident.

McLeod was transported to Metro Jail, where she was booked in connection with the incident. Police have not released additional details regarding potential charges, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Law enforcement officials praised the swift response of officers and emphasized the importance of reporting threats, noting that verbal threats of violence are taken seriously due to the potential risk to the public.
