WEST POINT, Miss. (BuzzReport) — A quiet rural community in northeast Mississippi was shaken by a burst of deadly violence Friday night after authorities say six people were fatally shot at multiple locations, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect.

Clay County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Woodruff confirmed that Daricka M. Moore, 24, has been charged with murder in connection with the shootings. Jail records show Moore was booked into the Clay County Jail before dawn Saturday. Authorities have not said whether he has retained legal representation.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the shootings occurred at three separate locations in the small community of Cedarbluff, west of West Point, the county seat. Investigators believe the incidents are related, though officials have not yet released details about the victims, the sequence of events, or a possible motive.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott addressed the tragedy in a somber message posted on social media, saying the county had lost “multiple innocent lives” as a result of violence.

“I ask that you lift our victims and their families in your prayers,” Scott wrote. “Law Enforcement is busy investigating and will release an update as soon as possible.”

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation confirmed Saturday that it is assisting local authorities with the case, but deferred further comment to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

As investigators worked through the early morning hours, the normally quiet community was left grappling with shock and grief. Officials said additional information would be released during an afternoon news conference.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and urged the public to remain patient as facts are confirmed.

This is a developing story.
