BREWTON, AL (BuzzReport)– A months-long investigation into a February homicide, a case that drew upon the resources of multiple local and federal agencies, reached a critical juncture this week as an Escambia County Grand Jury delivered a sweeping set of indictments against three men, alleging a brutal act of violence and a preceding campaign of terror.

The indictments name Darrell Brown, 37, of Atmore, and Darrel Campbell, 41, of Brewton, in connection with the February 12, 2025, killing of Rickel Samuel. The grim discovery of Samuel’s body at a Brewton residence prompted an immediate and extensive response from law enforcement.

What began as a local homicide investigation quickly evolved into a collaborative effort, pulling in the analytical might of the FBI, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and a multi-jurisdictional task force of officers from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Atmore Police Department, and investigators from the Alabama Department of Corrections, all coordinated through the Escambia County District Attorney’s Office.

The result of that meticulous work was presented to the grand jury, which returned a detailed account of alleged crimes. The charges paint a picture of a calculated and violent incident. Darrell Brown faces the most severe accusations, including three separate counts of Capital Murder, a charge that in Alabama can carry the death penalty. His indictment is further compounded by three counts of Attempted Murder, alongside charges for Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

His co-defendant, Darrel Campbell, is similarly charged with one count of Capital Murder, three counts of Attempted Murder, and two counts of Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling. Both men are currently in custody, awaiting the next phase of the judicial process.

A third indictment, connected to the same victim but from a different time, suggests a history of targeted violence. Tylee Brown, 36, also of Atmore, was charged for his alleged involvement in two separate shooting incidents at Rickel Samuel’s residence two months prior, in December 2024. He now faces three counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling for those events.

The Brewton Police Department, while acknowledging the significance of the indictments, maintains that the investigation remains active. The department has reaffirmed its commitment to a thorough process, emphasizing its focus on securing justice for the victim and his family. Community support has been noted as a valued asset throughout the difficult investigation.

With the judicial machinery now engaged, the cases against Darrell Brown, Darrel Campbell, and Tylee Brown will proceed through the courts, where the evidence detailed in the indictments will be subject to scrutiny.
