FOLEY, AL (BuzzReport) – A devastating seven-vehicle collision on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of an Elberta man and sent at least one other to the hospital, snarling traffic at the busy intersection of the Foley Beach Express and Highway 98.

Ernest Milton Kinsey, 62, of Elberta, was pronounced dead at a local hospital following the violent crash, according to the Foley Police Department.

Authorities reported the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when Kinsey, driving southbound on the Beach Express, reportedly veered into the northbound lane. His vehicle then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado.

The force of the initial impact propelled the Silverado into five additional vehicles, creating a chaotic scene of twisted metal and shattered glass across the intersection. In total, seven vehicles were involved in the massive pileup.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries described by officials as minor, though the trauma of such an event is undoubtedly significant. No other serious injuries were immediately reported among the occupants of the other five vehicles, but several individuals were evaluated at the scene for various minor injuries.

Emergency crews, including Foley Police and Fire, rapidly responded to the scene, working to assist victims and clear the wreckage. The intersection remained closed for several hours while investigators meticulously worked to reconstruct the events leading up to the tragedy, causing significant traffic delays throughout the area.

The Foley Police Department has launched an investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding why Kinsey’s vehicle crossed into opposing traffic. Further details will be released as they become available. The crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers present on local roadways, especially at high-traffic junctions.
